Love being a KID? God can work with 'dat!

“And said, Verily I say unto you, except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.  Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”  Matt. 18: 3-4

Today’s Christian Daily Devotional

I have a little sister with special needs.  When I have the honor of praying with her, my heart gets renewed in what prayer is really all about.  It is a beautiful thing to see her pray with passion.  She never uses difficult words or  ”spiritual” concepts. She does not try and figure out the problem for God, or manipulate an angle from Him. She simply states her prayer as a request to her Heavenly Father.  When she prays, I feel God Himself in the room and her request rests on ears that are eager to answer.  I know this is because when she prays, she has unwavering faith that God wants to and will answer her prayers.  This is always a lesson of humility for me.  I know God is disgusted by a prideful heart that refuses to lean on Him, or tries to manipulate His goodness. My sister’s prayers hold no doubt, no pretense and no hidden motive.  She is just a simple little girl asking for help and trusting in her Heavenly Father to provide it. Because the Lord Himself says He resists the proud, I have made it my mission to stand against my own pride. We can all have the presence of God in our prayer life if we simply loose our pretense and come to Him like a little child. Being an “adult” is a little over-rated anyway, don’t you think?

“Dear Heavenly Father,

I would like to get to know you better.  I would like to pray with power, too.  But, most of all, I would like to experience the kind of relationship that totally trusts in you.  I have had years of doing things “my way” of trying to get the most out of every thing that I do.  I see my sister as a living example to how I need to come to you.  My pride is getting in the way of hearing the good things you have for me.  I keep praying for my prayers to be heard, but what is YOUR will for my life, Lord?  Help me to accept the changes I would have never chosen for myself and help me to be thankful before I see any blessings. In Matt. 18: 3-4 it says the least on earth are the greatest in your kingdom.  This is a bold statement.  Lord, give me eyes to see this and a heart to continue in my quest to be so filled with humility that that every prayer I speak is for another.  In Jesus’ name, and for the sake of being one humble servant for you, Amen.”
